Historic Decision Announced After US-Mediated Talks

In a major diplomatic breakthrough, India and Pakistan have agreed to cease all military action across land, air, and sea from 5 PM today. The announcement marks a significant step toward peace between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the development, stating, “The DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) of Pakistan called up the Indian DGMO at 3:35 PM. They agreed that both sides will stop all firing and military action from land, air, and sea from 5 PM onwards.” The two DGMOs are expected to speak again at noon on May 12 to ensure continued coordination.

India Reaffirms Its Stance on Terrorism

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also posted on X (formerly Twitter), “India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so.”

US Mediation Played a Crucial Role

Former US President Donald Trump played a key role in mediating the agreement. In a post on his social platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote, “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire. Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and great intelligence.”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio added, “Over the past 48 hours, Vice-President Vance and I engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif. We commend both leaders for their wisdom and statesmanship.”

Peace Initiative Welcomed in Pakistan

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar posted on X, “Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Sources in the Indian government emphasized that the ceasefire decision was worked out directly between New Delhi and Islamabad. “The Pakistan DGMO initiated the call. Following discussions, both sides reached an understanding. No decision has been made to hold further talks on other issues,” they clarified.

The Road Ahead

Though the ceasefire agreement is being celebrated globally as a major step toward peace, experts say it’s only the beginning. The international community has welcomed the development, urging both nations to engage in sustained dialogue to resolve longstanding issues.

With both countries now halting military action, hopes are high for more stable and peaceful relations in the region.
