Women Achievers Take Over PM Modi’s Social Media for International Women’s Day 2025

On International Women’s Day 2025, women achievers from various fields, including chess, science, and technology, took over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle to share their inspiring stories and messages. Among them were Indian chess Grandmaster R Vaishali and scientists Elina Mishra and Shilpi Soni, who highlighted the significance of women’s contributions in their respective industries.

Vaishali’s Message: Empowering Young Women to Follow Their Dreams

R Vaishali, one of the top-ranked women chess players globally, expressed her excitement about taking over PM Modi’s social media handle on such an important occasion. In her post, she shared her journey of playing chess since the age of 6, which she described as a “learning, thrilling, and rewarding journey.”

She encouraged young girls to “follow their dreams, no matter the hurdles,” emphasizing that passion and perseverance are key to success. Vaishali also urged parents and siblings to support girls in their aspirations, recalling the support she received from her parents, Thiru Rameshbabu and Thirumathi Nagalakshmi.

Elina Mishra and Shilpi Soni Advocate for Women in Science and Technology

Elina Mishra and Shilpi Soni, both scientists from Odisha, shared their experiences and underscored India’s growth as a hub for women in science and technology. They noted how fields like nuclear technology and space exploration, which were once male-dominated, now offer numerous opportunities for women in India.

Mishra and Soni highlighted India’s vibrant scientific landscape, where more women are making a mark in emerging sectors like space technology and nuclear science. They encouraged women to pursue careers in science, emphasizing that India provides a conducive environment for innovation and growth.

A Tradition of Empowerment: Women Take Over PM Modi’s Social Media

This is not the first time women achievers have taken over PM Modi’s social media accounts. In 2020, seven remarkable women from diverse fields were given a global platform to inspire others, showcasing India’s commitment to women’s empowerment.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the ‘Nari Shakti’ (women power) on International Women’s Day, reaffirming his government’s commitment to women’s empowerment. Through his message, he highlighted the government’s initiatives that support women, reflecting in various schemes and programs. In a post on X, he stated, “We bow to our Nari Shakti on Women’s Day! Our government has always worked for empowering women, reflecting in our schemes and programmes. Today, as promised, my social media properties will be taken over by women who are making a mark in diverse fields.”
