Rajkummar Rao debuts in a dark gangster avatar in the intense teaser of ‘Maalik’
On June 3, the makers released the much-anticipated teaser of the upcoming crime action-thriller Maalik, showcasing Rajkummar Rao in a ruthless gangster role unlike anything seen before.
In the teaser, Rajkummar Rao portrays a fierce outlaw who spares no one who stands against him, marking a dark and intense chapter in his acting career.
The teaser opens with Rao walking with a blood-soaked shovel, accompanied by his voiceover saying, “There are two kinds of people, one who sweats to make a living. Then, there are those who give their blood and sweat to snatch what rightfully belongs to them.” His character’s chilling dialogue, “Agar Maalik paida nahi hue to khud se Maalik ban to sakte hain (If I wasn’t born a Lord, then at least I can become one of my own),” sets the tone for a gritty gangster saga filled with power struggles and survival.
Fans have praised Rao’s powerful screen presence and versatility. One Instagram user commented, “Raj karega ‘Maalik’ (Raj will rule),” while another remarked, “This will change the perception of Rajkummar Rao. He is a versatile actor.” The teaser hints that Maalik could be one of Rao’s darkest roles, reminiscent of his critically acclaimed performance in Omerta.
Directed by Pulkit and produced by Kumar Taurani under Tips Films and Jay Shewakramani’s Northern Lights Films, Maalik is slated for theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
