Etawah, February 2, 2025: In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district, an electricity checking team was attacked by villagers during an anti-power theft drive. The angry villagers surrounded the team, assaulted them with sticks, and vandalized their cars by smashing the windows. Additionally, the officials’ mobile phones were also snatched.
Officials Escaped to Save Their Lives
The incident took place in Bhatpura village under the Saifai police station limits. The electricity department team had arrived to check for illegal electricity connections when the villagers became aggressive and attacked them. The team, which included three junior engineers (JEs) and other staff members, somehow managed to escape and reached the Saifai police station to report the incident.
Case Filed Against Four Named and Two Unidentified Accused
Based on the complaint filed by the electricity department, the police have registered a case against four identified and two unidentified individuals. Law enforcement agencies have started conducting raids to arrest the accused.
Rising Tension Over Power Theft Checks
The government has been actively cracking down on electricity theft, but increasing resistance and violent reactions from villagers pose a major challenge. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible to prevent such incidents in the future.
