Joint Operation by Electricity Department and Vigilance Team Creates Panic Among Power Thieves

In a major crackdown on electricity theft, a joint team of the Etawah Electricity Department and the Vigilance Unit conducted a late-night operation in the city. During surprise inspections at three different locations — Prabhu Ka Adda, Indira Nagar, and Ramnagar — the team uncovered a total theft of 35 kilowatts of electricity.

The operation was led by Sub-Divisional Officer (Third) Gagan Agnihotri and Vigilance In-Charge Zulfikar Ali. The authorities caught 17 individuals red-handed stealing electricity during the raid and filed legal action under the Electricity Theft Act.

Names of Accused

Those charged with electricity theft include: Uma Devi, Ratna Shri, Sangrila, Balveer, Ramchandra, Meera Devi, Rajeev, Tejpal Singh, Ganga Devi, Moharshree, Rahul, Anuj Kumar, Shubham Kumar, Rajaram, Shiv Bahadur, Madhu Shukla, and Seema Devi.

The team also included Junior Engineer Shashiv Gaur, Vigilance Junior Engineer Ajay Srivastava, Sub-Inspector Jitendra Singh, Head Constable Om Pratap Singh, Awadhesh Singh, and other departmental staff.

Power Theft Behind Sudden Overload

Executive Engineer (First Division) Hanuman Prasad Mishra stated that the drive was initiated following frequent complaints of sudden overload on transformers at night and power cuts faced by genuine consumers. He confirmed that electricity theft was the major reason behind the sudden rise in load during nighttime.

Anti-Theft Drive to Continue

He further added that the department will continue its strict monitoring and checking drives day and night to ensure uninterrupted and smooth power supply to law-abiding consumers.

The operation has caused a stir in the area, and a wave of panic has spread among those engaged in illegal power usage. Meanwhile, law-abiding residents have welcomed the department’s strict stance on power theft.
