24-Year-Old Bank Executive Accused of Fraudulent Transactions, Arrested After Customer Complaints
Kota, Rajasthan – June 6, 2025:
Police have arrested a 24-year-old relationship manager of an ICICI Bank branch in Kota for allegedly siphoning off ₹4.6 crore from customers’ accounts by creating secret bank accounts and manipulating registered mobile numbers. The accused, identified as Sakshi Gupta, allegedly defrauded 41 customers over the span of two years.
According to police officials, between 2022 and 2023, Sakshi withdrew funds from 110 accounts and rerouted the money into newly created accounts. She then allegedly used these funds to invest in the stock market. An elderly woman reportedly lost over ₹3 crore after someone transferred the amount from her account without her knowledge.
Modus Operandi: Secret Accounts and Fixed Deposit Closures
Investigations reveal that when customers approached Sakshi to open accounts, she would secretly open a second account in their name and direct their funds into it. She also allegedly prematurely closed fixed deposits of 30 customers, diverting ₹1.34 crore in the process.
To cover her tracks, Sakshi changed the registered mobile numbers linked to these accounts so that customers would not receive transaction alerts.
Discovery and Arrest
The fraud came to light after multiple customer complaints prompted Bank Manager Tarun Dadhich to carry out an internal investigation. On February 18, 2025, he filed a police complaint. Sakshi was later arrested in Rawatbhata, her hometown, though she had been living in Kota with her husband.
Udyog Nagar Police Station SHO Jitendra Singh stated, “She even invested lakhs of rupees from her own family in the stock market but suffered heavy losses.”
ICICI Bank Responds
ICICI Bank issued a statement saying:
“The FIR was filed immediately upon discovering the fraudulent activity. The employee was suspended, and we have a zero-tolerance policy toward fraud. We have also settled genuine claims of affected customers.”
