After historic win over LSG, Karthik urges RCB to stay focused on the ‘bigger goal’ as they gear up for IPL 2025 Qualifier 1
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are riding high after securing a thrilling six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), a win that not only catapulted them into the IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 but also etched their name in the record books as the first IPL team to win all seven away matches in a single season.
Following the emphatic win, RCB’s batting coach and former India wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik delivered a powerful and emotional speech in the dressing room, calling on the team to keep their eyes on the ultimate prize — the IPL trophy.
“We Have Bigger Things to Play For”: Karthik’s Call to Action
In a video shared by the franchise on social media, Karthik addressed the squad with clarity and conviction:
“This year we have gotten to the playoffs. Not just playoffs, but second place. Most importantly, I think this room believes there is a bigger goal. For that, we need to stay calm,” said Karthik.
He emphasized the importance of self-belief and teamwork, referencing Jitesh Sharma’s explosive innings that led the team to victory, as an example of what each player is capable of.
“Any one of you in the playing 12 can do exactly what Jitesh Sharma did… It’s about manifesting that you’re the one on game day. Let’s make sure it happens this year.”
Milestones Achieved, But Mission Not Over
RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, also addressed the team and highlighted the historic nature of their accomplishments this season. He applauded the players for their flawless away record and their top-two finish in the league standings.
“Seven out of seven away wins — that’s never been done before. It’s our highest-ever chase, and the third highest in IPL history. These are big milestones,” Bobat said.
Despite the celebration, Bobat reminded the team that their journey is far from over:
“We’ve probably got our most enjoyable, most exciting, most important week ahead. That mindset is really, really important.”
RCB to Face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1
With momentum on their side, RCB will now face table-toppers Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 at Mullanpur on Thursday. A win will secure them a spot in the IPL 2025 Final, putting them one step closer to their first-ever championship title.
As the RCB camp stays grounded and focused, the message from leadership is clear: celebrate the progress, but don’t lose sight of the bigger dream.
