🏏 BCCI prioritizes national security as franchises begin evacuation of players and staff

In an unprecedented move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the immediate suspension of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 for one week due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision comes after high-level consultations with the Indian government and national security agencies.

“While cricket remains a national passion, there is nothing greater than the Nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security,” said BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia in an official statement on Friday.

🚨 Crisis Unfolds During Live Match

The crisis came to a head during a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala, which had to be abruptly called off midway due to a blackout. An emergency evacuation followed, moving players and match officials back to their hotel under heightened security.

On Friday morning, both teams left Dharamsala for Delhi via a special train, along with broadcast crews and support staff.

✈️ Franchises Begin Evacuation Process

According to sources from The Indian Express, at least three IPL franchises have already begun coordinating chartered flights to ensure the safe return of players — including foreign players and their families. A franchise official stated:

“If players from other franchises also want to join, we would facilitate that as well. For now, we are waiting to hear from the BCCI.”

📅 What’s Next for IPL 2025?

The BCCI has not yet confirmed when or where the tournament will resume. It has, however, assured fans and stakeholders that a revised schedule will be released after assessing the evolving situation and consulting with relevant authorities.

For now, the future of IPL 2025 remains uncertain, as cricket takes a backseat to national security and regional stability.
