Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium to Host Key Matches
Hyderabad is set to host several matches of the 18th edition of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL), with authorities implementing tight security measures. The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (RGICS) will host a total of seven league matches, along with a qualifier on May 20 and an eliminator on May 21.
The first match at the stadium will take place on March 23 at 3:30 PM, featuring Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) vs Rajasthan Royals. All other matches scheduled in Hyderabad will be night matches. The stadium has a seating capacity of 39,000 spectators.
Security Measures: 2,700 Police Personnel and 450 Cameras
To ensure safety during the matches, Rachakonda Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu announced the deployment of 2,700 police personnel, including:
- Six platoons of Armed Forces
- Elite OCTOPUS commandos
- Traffic, Law & Order, Special Branch, SHE teams, and Special Operations Teams
- Mounted Police and tear gas units
A joint command and control room has been set up to monitor security cameras placed inside and outside the stadium, including at checkpoints and parking areas. Anti-sabotage teams will also be active until the end of each match.
Restricted Entry and Prohibited Items
Security officials have implemented strict entry rules:
- Gate No. 1 is reserved for players and VVIPs only.
- Spectators must enter through designated gates as per their tickets.
- An evacuation plan is ready for any emergency.
Prohibited items at the stadium include:
- Laptops, cameras, and electronic gadgets
- Water bottles, banners, and umbrellas
- Cigarettes, matchboxes, lighters, and perfumes
- Sharp objects, binoculars, writing pens, batteries, helmets, and bags
With tight security arrangements in place, Hyderabad is prepared to host thrilling IPL matches while ensuring the safety of players and fans.
